Networking

I've created a website to better sell myself in the child care industry.

Check it out! www.freewebs.com/meganpoppins

So far, so good! I've been contacted by a couple families, one of which is in Short Hills, New Jersey! They're looking for a live-in nanny and in the process, they are willing to fly me out for a weekend-long interview. The Memorial Day weekend will include a concert at Carnegie Hall and a trip to their beach house on the Jersey shore!!!

(Jackpot!)

Mom is skeptical... But don't worry, guys! They're both lawyers. (smirk)

Seriously though, I've checked out their law firms online and had a nice long chat with both of them over the phone tonight. The agency that sent them my way has placed nannies with them before, so I'm convinced they will be decent people.

So, based on my new website: Would you guys hire me? (If you didn't know me, of course.)

I'm sold. If I had small children (and money) you'd sure be my first choice.

But ... how can you be sure these prospective employers are nice? Boston stranglers are still among us today, you know, and this world is a scary place. Especially for beautiful young women. And really especially for the grandmothers of beautiful young women.

Oh, Meggie ... I love you so.

I loved it. It's honest and quirky, relaxed but still spoken with a business tone. Your rates seem very well thought out, like you've had enough experience to know what to ask for. I would totally hire you to babysit Landon, if you ever do pets in the future.

I wish you had more pictures of you and the kids together. The few you had were so sweet!

The volunteer work with troubled teens sounds like a hopeful opportunity for someone with an older kid. Sounds like that'll be helpful with 11 and 13 year old you'll be taking care of!

I had no idea about the specifics of what you do so I think I was a good guinea pig for this. And I'm all-the-more informed now!

Megan left out what I considered to be some of the more interesting aspects . . . The couple are not only two lawyers, but they graduated with honors from Ivy league schools. And Megan isn't just going to Carnegie Hall during her interview, she will be watching her potential two charges play in the NY Youth Symphony. This could be a very good experience for her.

Megan,
NY sounds so exciting! Maybe I should give up nursing and play with babies...

I love your website. It amazes me all the things people do with the internet. You're such a smart girl to set that up. It gives a potential parent a good feel for who you are and of course, you are so impressive.

One note I wanted to add for your consideration...
The rates/availability page looks a bit choppy with the white print being split up on different lines. I like the one section where the white starts as a fresh line under the previous color font instead of out to the right of it. Does that make sense? And yes, I know it's a picky detail, but the site looks so perfect I feel the details matter.

Good luck and be sure to let us know how your weekend goes!

Thanks Karen! I know what you're talking about. It's so strange... sometimes the rates/availablility page looks choppy and sometimes it's all put in place. When I go back to edit the page, it all looks like it's in place. I don't understand the darn thing well enough to figure it out. Perhaps this Yankee job won't work out... (Heaven forbid!) If the family decides not to hire me, I'll have Anthony fix it for me.

If I take my car with me up to NJ, I'll be making lots of stops along the way and this includes your house. Just thought you might like to know... ;)

Megan,

That sounds like a really neat opportunity! Have you heard from the family? When will you move? I'll come visit! :)
