Math Quiz!

Okay, Carmen or anyone else feeling mathematically wise this weekend, here's a little math problem. If you have to move 150 boxes each measuring 10x15x24 (inches), how many cubic feet would you need the U-Haul truck to hold?

I come up with 312.5. :)

10/12 x 15/12 x 24/12 x 150

Are you sure? I was hoping for a larger answer since I have already reserved a 17-foot truck for the law firm to use next Thursday. It will hold a little over 800 cubic feet. By your calculations I should have gone with the 10-foot truck which holds about 400 cubic feet and cost $10 less and is about 7 foot less of a truck for my co-worker, James, to handle. Dang!

Got that carpet installed yet?

It's on the backburner for a day or two. I'm thinking about painting my room before putting the carpet down. I'm trying to decide if I have enough time to do it before Christmas . . . along with completing my office.

I need more time and I need more money. I keep buying lottery tickets, but I don't even get close . . . and then I'm so disappointed.

As for the truck, it's probably better to have the bigger one. That way they won't have to stack the boxes all the way to the ceiling.

I agree on both:

Paint your room first, before you lay the carpet. Paint is one of the most economical face-lifts for your home. You can do it fairly cheap and it only takes a day or two at most to paint one room. Do it now! Before Christmas.

Also, the 10-ft truck would hold 400 cubic feet; but if they produce some last-minute boxes, we'd run it too close on space. And the 17-ft truck costs the same price as the 14-ft truck. So, why not?

Thanks for the math help! I tried multiplying the box measurements before I divided by 12, and that was creating an answer way too big for a truck. :-)

Good Lord, all this talk about math is giving me a headache!

hahahahaha! I never would have made it through my 3 remedial math courses and the college-level math course-for-dummies (Math Fundamentals) if it weren't for my Mom.

I'm lost. Did Megan change her name to Shannon? I really liked the name Megan.

Megan??? Have you got a split personality . . . or a second identity for the Web??? What are you doing?
